Position Summary
Jasper Hill cheesemakers are fully engaged, relentlessly curious, and committed to quality. As a cheesemaker at Jasper Hill, you’ll work alongside some of the best in the business on a dedicated, tight-knit team. You’ll hone an understanding of the cheesemaking process that blends scientific and sensory analysis. The work is physical, fast-paced, and mentally stimulating. This role often starts early or works late, much of the time is spent cleaning, and it generally requires working at least one weekend day. At the end of the day, though, it provides the satisfaction of playing a critical role inside one of the country’s most celebrated and innovative artisan cheese producers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Cleaning and sanitizing all cheesemaking and cheese-care equipment
Follow recipes and established procedures to produce a variety of cheeses.
Utilizing, cleaning, and sanitizing all cheesemaking equipment according to Standard Operating Procedures.
Follow established protocols concerning food safety and quality in accordance with the Food Safety Plan and Good Manufacturing Practices.
Use of pH meter, moisture analyzer, and other technical equipment.
Record keeping to maintain the cheesemaking database as well as food safety documentation.
Participate in sensory tastings and quality walkthroughs.
Be responsible for pasteurization and other equipment operation following proper training.
Able to work and thrive in a production environment that is hot, hot, hot.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Previous cheesemaking experience preferred.
HACCP/HARPC, Food Safety Plan, or GMP knowledge preferred.
Stamina to keep moving.
Ability to continually improve the cheesemaking process.
Attention to detail regarding safety, sanitation, record keeping, and quality.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), email, and database entry.
Interpersonal skills including communication and working collaboratively with a team.
Ability (and desire) to work on your feet for long periods of time with the ability to lift 45+ pounds.
Chemistry, microbiology, or culinary studies are preferred.
Mechanical aptitude is a huge plus.
Ability to work in hot (90-95 degrees) and cold conditions (40-50 degrees) for extended periods of time.
